Course Overview

CPD Health and Safety Awareness Course overview

This Health and Safety Awareness training provides a clear introduction to the principles of health and safety in the workplace. It’s designed to give employees at all levels the knowledge they need to recognise risks, follow safe practices, and understand their role in creating safer working environments.

The course explores legal duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act, outlining the responsibilities of both employers and employees. Learners will gain an understanding of workplace hazards and environmental risks, and how to apply simple risk assessment processes to reduce accidents and injuries.

Practical topics include safe lifting techniques, effective accident reporting, and the importance of clear documentation. The training also covers emergency procedures and guidance on who to contact with health and safety concerns, helping staff act quickly and appropriately when issues arise.

By the end of the course, learners will understand how to maintain workplace safety, support compliance with the Health and Safety Act, and contribute to embedding a culture of safety within their organisation.

Course Structure:

  • Describe and discuss employee and employer responsibilities for keeping safe at work
  • Identify and define what hazards and risks are in the workplace
  • Discuss and identify policies, procedures and documentation related to health and safety at work
  • Establish and convey who you would contact at work with health and safety concerns
  • Discuss how to embed a culture of safety in working practices in your organisation

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

Every employee has a role to play in keeping the workplace safe, which is why this Health and Safety Awareness course is open to all staff. There are no prerequisites or qualifications needed, making it easy for employers to enrol both new starters and experienced workers who may need a refresher.

The training is particularly relevant for employees in health and social care, education, office-based roles, and other sectors where awareness of hazards, accident reporting, and emergency procedures are essential. It’s also valuable for anyone with responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, helping them understand how to meet their legal obligations.

Delivered online via cohort delivery, the course is flexible and accessible, allowing learners to complete it at their own pace alongside daily responsibilities. Employers can use it to set a baseline of knowledge across their workforce, ensuring staff have the confidence to identify risks and contribute to a stronger culture of health and safety in the workplace.
