CPD Medication Awareness Course overview

This CPD-certified Medication Awareness training is designed to give staff a solid grounding in the safe handling of medication. Delivered fully online, the course takes around three hours to complete and provides accessible, flexible learning for staff at all levels.

The course explores the principles of medication administration training, including how to store medication correctly, keep accurate documentation, and dispose of medication safely. Learners also gain an understanding of the different types of medication, possible routes for administering them, and the importance of maintaining patient autonomy, dignity, and choice when discussing or supporting medical needs.

Additional topics include recognising side effects, understanding covert medications, and how to respond appropriately to medication errors. By the end of the course, staff will be equipped with the knowledge to handle medication responsibly and confidently within their role.

  • Identify accountability and responsibility and organisational medication policies and procedures
  • Explain the importance of maintaining the individual’s privacy, dignity, independence, choice and consent when discussing and administering medication
  • Identify the types of medication available and the possible routes for administering them
  • Recognise and discuss possible common side effects and adverse reactions of medications for some individuals
  • Recognise and manage medication errors and do’s and don’ts of medication administration and usage
